The Datengxia hydro-junction project is located at Nutan, at the estuary of the Qian River (a section of the Xi River system) at Datengxia within the Pearl River Basin; belonging to Guiping, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it is 6.6 kilometers away from Guiping’s Rainbow Bridge downstream.

The Datengxia hydro-junction project is a key flood control project for the drainage basin as defined in the Planning for the Comprehensive Utilization of the Pearl River Basin approved by the State Council, and also an important part of the Hongshui River hydroelectric power base. This project is developed for comprehensive utilization, including flood control, navigation, power generation, supplementation of freshwater for diluting of salty water, and irrigation.

The Datengxia hydro-junction project comprises the primary dam of the Qian River, the auxiliary dam of the Qian River and the auxiliary dam of the Nanmu River. The installed capacity of the power station is 1,600 MW; and 8 sets of 200 MW axial flow hydro turbine generator units with movable blades are installed, with 3 units in the plant building of the left bank and 5 units in the plant building of the right bank. Its annual average power generation amount is 6,055 million kWh and its guaranteed out is 366.9 MW. The time limit of the project is 9 years.
