Located at the downstream of the Jinsha River at the common border of Yunnan’s Shuifu Country and Sichuan’s Yibin Country, it is only 1,500 meters away from Shuifu Country, and the last stage of hydropower station of the Jinsha River hydroelectric power base, and this hydropower station was constructed by Three Gorges Group. It is 157 kilometers from the dam of Xiluodu Hydropower Station at the upstream; the barrage of the hydropower station is a concrete gravity dam; the dam crest elevation is 384 meters; the maximum dam height is 162 meters; the dam crest length is 909.26 meters. The control catchment area of the dam site is 458,800 square kilometers, which accounts for 97% of the Jinsha River’s catchment area; the annual average runoff flow is 3,810 cubic meters/second. The total reservoir capacity is 5,163 million cubic meters, the regulated storage capacity is 900 million cubic meters, and the backwater length is 156.6 kilometers. The installed capacity of the power station is 7,750 MW (8 sets of 800 MW hydro turbines and 3 sets of 450 MW large hydro turbines; their guarantee output is 2,009 MW, and the annual average power generation amount is 30,747 million kWh. The total static investment is about 54,200 million yuan. The total dynamic investment is 51,900 million yuan. It is China’s third-biggest hydropower station and the world’s fifth-biggest hydropower station, and also a main power source for the West-East electricity transmission project. Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station is the sole super dam having an irrigation system among the 25 hydropower stations in the Jinsha River hydroelectric power base; Xiangjiaba is also the sole dam with a ship lift in the Jinsha River hydroelectric power base; its ship lift, comparable to that of the Three Gorges, is the world’s largest individual ship lift; and its dam transit efficiency is much higher than that of the five-stage lock of the Three Gorges; a 1,000-tonnage ship can transit the dam in only 15 minutes, while it takes 5 hours on average to transit the lock of the Three Gorges. The domestic production project of Xiangjiaba-Shanghai ±800 kV ultra-high voltage direct current transmission system is one of the state-of-the-art power systems with the highest transmission voltage level in China.
