In August 2001, WS undertook the fabrication and installation of the canopy steel structures for Wuhan Stadium. The canopy steel structure of this stadium is of a cable-membrane truss structure, with the works amounting to 3,450 tons and the project lasting for 180 days.
Wuhan Sports Center is located in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. The stadium, which covers an area of 700 mu and can hold 60,000 people, is the main building of the center. And its floor area is 80,000 square meters, and 500 million yuan have been invested in it. It is a modern international sports arena which adopted first-class technology that was advanced in the world. The intelligent system realized a first in 4 aspects in China, and the lighting and the public address system was the best in the world. When viewed from the top, the stadium has a novel style that reflected the spirit of the twenty-first century, which is comparable to those of the sports facilities in Europe and America. WS undertook the fabrication and installation of the canopy steel structure, and the installation and tensioning of the upper stay cables, the lower stay cables and the inner stay cables of the canopy. The body canopy steel structure covered an area of 27,600 m2, and the project adopted a design of the cable-membrane tensile structure. In 2003, Wuhan Sports Center won the Gold Prize for Building Steel Structures by the Ministry of Construction in 2003.
