FAST for the National Astronomical Observatories, located in the Dawodang depression, Jinke Village, Kedu Town, Pingtang Country, Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou, is a major science & technology infrastructure project of China in the “Eleventh Five-Year”. With a diameter of 500 meters, the reflector surface comprises 4,450 panels, in the size of 30 football pitches; FAST will be the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope and remain to the world-class project in the future 20 to 30 years. It is used to research a wide range of astronomic subjects, which involve initial chaos of the universe, dark matter, dark energy, large-scale structure, the evolution of galaxies and the Milky Way, stellar-like celestial bodies, observation and study of the events of the planets in the solar system and neighboring spaces. The installation works undertaken by WS includes installation of 4,450 reflector panels, design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of lifting equipment; the installation mainly includes using special lifting equipment, lifting the panels assembled and tested in Xiaowodang to the designated positions of the cable network, and assembling and joining the panel connectors and the upper dish of the cable network nodes to form the reflector surface of the telescope. After the panels are installed, the lifting equipment is retrofit to maintenance equipment for future maintenance of the reflector surface.
