The ship lift chamber of the Three Gorges Ship Lift fabricated by WS can carry 3,000-tonnage ships, the maximum climb tonnage is 15,500 tons, and the maximum climb height is 113 meters. In November 2014, WS conducted two major tests. The first was the installation of the synchronous shaft system. The member of WS’ project department overcame a number of technical difficulties and realized free rotation of the 200-meter long synchronous shaft system by manual work by one person and simultaneous rotation of four driving points to the designated point. The second was the WS’ test on the empty condition of the ship chamber of the Three Gorges Ship Lift to avoid catastrophic results due to an imbalance of gravity. The Three Gorges Ship Lift is mainly designed for 3,000-tonnage large passenger ships, tourist ships and some cargo ships transporting perishable cargoes. After the lift is put into operation, the time to pass the permanent lock is shortened from 3.5 hours to about 40 minutes, and fast transit is provided for passenger ships, cargo ships and special ships.
